The United States Attorney’s Office announces that United States District Judge George Z. Singal, sitting in Portland, sentenced Wayne N. Collamore, age 60, originally of Damariscotta, to serve 17.5 in federal prison for escape and possession of a firearm after having been convicted of a felony. Collamore pleaded guilty to the charges in December 2010.
According to court records, on May 28, 2010, Collamore escaped from the Pharos House, a halfway house in Portland where Collamore was completing an earlier federal sentence.
On June 10, United States Marshals found Collamore sleeping in a car in Owls Head. They arrested him and seized a loaded .22 caliber handgun from the front seat of the car.
In imposing the prison sentence, the court found that Collamore qualified as an “armed career criminal,” since he had been previously convicted of at least three crimes of violence. Court records list 10 previous felony offenses of which Collamore has been convicted.
The investigation leading to today’s sentence was conducted by the U.S. Marshal’s Service, the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the Maine State Police and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Dept.
