Four people were arrested last week as a result of a Maine Drug Enforcement Agency investigation into heroin distribution in Lincoln and Sagadahoc counties.
According to an MDEA press release, Travis Crowley, 31, and Carol Crowley, 25, both of Gardiner Road, Wiscasset, were both charged Class C possession of scheduled drugs. Amandalee Ayala, 26, and Angel Luis Miranda, 35, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., were both charged with Class A aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs.
According to the press release, the findings of the investigation indicates the Crowleys were allegedly using and distributing heroin in the Lincoln and Sagadahoc communities.
On Aug. 8 agents from the Mid Coast District Task Force along with officers from the Wiscasset Police Department and deputies from the Lincoln and Sagadahoc Sheriff’s Offices executed a search warrant at the Crowley’s residence on Gardiner Road.
The search warrant resulted in the seizure of over three grams of heroin, Inositol a cutting agent along with methadone, suboxone and fentanyl patches, none of which were prescribed to the Crowleys.
Evidence at the scene indicates the Crowleys were allegedly purchasing heroin then mixing it with Inositol, commonly referred to as “cutting” to increase the volume of the heroin, according to the press release.
A gram of heroin after cutting typically produces 50 bags or doses of heroin, which sell for approximately $30 a bag in Lincoln and Sagadahoc counties.
Agents were able to determine the Crowley’s source of supply for their heroin was two people from New York City, according to the press release.
On Aug. 10 around 4:40 a.m., Wiscasset Police conducted a traffic stop for agents on Route 1 in Wiscasset. The two occupants of the vehicle were Angel Luis Miranda and Amandalee Ayala. The two were arriving back in Maine from New York.
Agents allegedly seized 21 grams of heroin from Miranda and Ayala. The two were arrested and transported to the Two Bridges Jail.
Bail was set for Miranda and Ayala at $10,000 cash each. Both have extensive criminal histories in New York.
The Crowleys were both released on unsecured bonds from the Sagadahoc Sheriff’s Office. Additional charges are expected for the group in the near future.
