A fourth man faces 16 burglary and theft charges, including 13 felonies, in connection with a string of burglaries in 2009 and 2010.
Troy Hallett, 43, of Hallowell, joins Brian Brown, 36, of Winthrop, Stephen Dingus, 29, of Hallowell and Corey Dionne, 21, of Augusta, as a defendant in the case.
Hallett faces eight charges of Class B and C burglary and eight charges of Class C, D and E theft by unauthorized taking.
The May 12 indictment lists eight victims in the towns of Jefferson, Newcastle, South Bristol and Whitefield – all of whom also appear in Brown’s indictment. One victim also appears in the Dingus indictment, another in Dionne’s.
The state alleges Hallett, with Brown and, on two occasions, Dingus or Dionne, stole five televisions, as well as computers, computer software, a stereo, an iPod, a video game console, video games, three safes, jewelry, DVDs, stamps, coins and a pair of binoculars.
Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) Lt. Michael Murphy previously said the men worked in the daytime, entering through unlocked or easily forced doors and windows.
Hallett’s indictment came later because of a court error in Kennebec County, where Brown, Dingus and Hallett were charged with similar crimes, KCSO Det. Terry Michaud said.
In Lincoln County, Brown faces 38 charges of burglary, theft by deception and theft by unauthorized taking. Dingus faces just four charges of burglary and theft by unauthorized taking, Dionne one of each.
Brown and Dingus pleaded not guilty and await trial. Dionne failed to appear at his April 28 arraignment. A warrant has been issued for his arrest. Hallett is scheduled for a Thurs., July 28 arraignment.
