Mike Tatro, of Friendship, has joined the Gamage Shipyard as general manager, replacing Steve Morris, who has managed the yard since 2005 and will retire in June.
Tatro is well-known in the marine industry, having worked in management roles at Lyman Morse and Front Street Shipyard. He began his career working at Islesboro Marine and is excited to return to the more intimate scale of operations that Gamage offers.
Tatro is a trained mechanic and systems engineer, and is very familiar with the maintenance of both power and sailing vessels. He is also well-versed in joinery, having run a shop specializing in furniture, cabinetry, and yacht interiors.
Tatro started April 6 and is already focused on the spring commissioning season. He is also working to increase the number of new projects the yard handles during the offseason.
Boat owners considering repowering, an electronics upgrade, or a full restoration can reach Tatro at 644-8181. Boaters will be impressed with his knowledge, his Midcoast network, and his ability to make things happen.
