The Jefferson/Nobleboro SnoPacker Snowmobile Club held their annual snowmobile racing event on Feb. 7 and 8 on Damariscotta Lake near Damariscotta Lake State Park in Jefferson.
Participants from around the state came to compete in drag races on Saturday and to test their sled speeds in radar runs on Sunday.
The weather was spectacular on Saturday and a large crowd of racers and spectators attended resulting in over 100 class entries. Sunday’s weather was fine, but the wind began to blow quite hard in early afternoon making it difficult to safely attain high speeds in the radar run. However, by that time most of the 90 class entrees had an opportunity to record some impressive speeds. James Geroux registered the fastest sled at 110 mph.
The track was prepared by club volunteers according to professionally engineered specifications to insure safety of riders and spectators. The races were registered with the state according to MSA racing rules. The club’s concession stand was on site to feed the hungry crowd.
The SnoPackers appreciate the support and donations provided by local businesses that support the club efforts each year. The club extends a special thanks to all the participants and to the many area residents who rode their sleds to the event and had the opportunity to enjoy the well-groomed trail system.
