Gifts at 136, a Maine Made Gallery in downtown Damariscotta was named Best Gallery in this year’s Best of Maine Down East magazine issue by readers. From shopping to eating to playing outdoors, Down East readers and editors selected their statewide favorites this year and Gifts at 136 made the list.
“Maine is such a special place for so many people,” said Down East Editor in Chief Paul Doiron.
“Whether you’re a native or have been visiting for years, everyone has a Maine favorite. The “Best of” awards are the perfect way to celebrate these well-loved people, places and more, and the results will introduce you to another Maine gem,” he said.
Gifts at 136 opened in November of last year in downtown Damariscotta.
“The public has been very receptive and enthusiastic about the art pieces we offer in our store,” said gallery manager Bruce Johnston, “and you can often find one or more of the artists spending time in the gallery – it’s a comfortable space in which to enjoy the art of Maine.”
“We are flattered to be getting so much positive press lately,” said owner, Martha Kalina. “Moon Guide for Mid-Coast Maine called the store a “carefully curated selection,” and Down East Magazine editors described us as “eclectic.” It makes me think that people understand what we are trying to do here – make local art accessible for all in a comfortable and friendly environment.”
Gifts at 136 offers works of Maine artists and crafters from all over the state in a variety of artistic methods. The store has paintings and prints, pottery and sculpture, jewelry and tableware, woodwork, and many other art forms.
Gifts at 136 is open seven days a week at 136 Main St., Damariscotta. Like them on Facebook, visit them online at www.Giftsat136.com, or check out their Pinterest page.
Other local winners included Mexicali Blues, Gamage Shipyard and Renys.
