A 32-year-old Bristol woman faces felony theft charges after allegedly stealing guns from a Bristol man and a Damariscotta man in separate incidents this spring.
A Lincoln County grand jury indicted Amanda M. Wallace on two counts each of class B theft by unauthorized taking and class E violation of condition of release Sept. 10.
A class B crime carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine; a class E crime a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
Damariscotta Police Officer Jason Warlick said Wallace stole an antique Remington 30-06 pump-action hunting rifle from a relative’s residence April 9. She pawned the gun the same day.
The alleged victim reported the rifle missing and another relative spotted it at a local antique shop. “We recovered it and we have kept it as evidence awaiting the outcome of the trial,” Warlick said.
Lt. Michael Murphy, of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, said Wallace stole a .22-caliber pistol from a Bristol man about a month later and pawned it at a local pawn shop.
“They were living together, and when she left, she took some of his property,” Murphy said. “She admitted to taking it and selling it.”
Wallace is free on $300 cash bail. Her bail conditions prohibit the possession or use of dangerous weapons, including firearms; prohibit the possession or use of alcohol or illegal drugs, and subject her to random searches and tests.
She also has to abide by the conditions of a supervised bail contract, which requires her to complete substance abuse evaluation and report to a case manager weekly.
Wallace is due to appear for arraignment in Lincoln County Superior Court in Wiscasset at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 30.
Wallace’s court-appointed defense attorney, Jennifer Davis, did not respond to a request for comment.
