Somerville’s new grants officer, Kelly Grenier, plans to meet with animal control officers Tim Dostie and Trina Harvey to determine what equipment is needed for them to better accomplish their work.
Reporting on the Board of Selectmen’s Dec. 18 meeting, Chairman Susan Greer said there is “a noted lack of equipment” for the animal control officers. Greer said humane traps are among the items that are needed.
Grenier, who was appointed to the new grants post Dec. 4, will also work with the Somerville Fire Dept. to pursue funding for new turnout gear for those firefighters who have recently joined the department.
In other business, the board discussed an upcoming meeting with Bill Duffy of Northern Geomantic, a developer of custom maps for state, federal and municipal agencies, as well as industry.
Greer said a year-long mapping project, which began in August, has accurately identified 430 lots and has found inconsistencies in the deeds for 80 other lots. She said another 20 lots do not have any documentation.
The end result of the project is expected to be a set of approximately 10 maps in portable document format (PDF) as well as in a mapping format that can be edited. In addition to identifying lots, maps would show features such as roads, trails, utility lines, lakes, ponds, waterways and major wetlands. An index map would also be provided.
The fee for Northern Geomantic’s work is $5000.
Greer also reported that the next town newsletter will be published in mid-January.
The Somerville Board of Selectmen will meet at 6 p.m. through the end of March, beginning with their next meeting on Weds., Jan 2, 2013. This is a temporary change from the usual Tuesday date, due to the New Year’s Holiday.
The Somerville Town Office will be closed Mon. and Tues., Dec. 24 and 25 as well as Mon. and Tues., Dec 31 and Jan. 1, 2013. For more information call the town office at 549-3828.
