A Lincoln County grand jury indicted a Guatemalan national in November, alleging he raped a four-year-old Damariscotta girl.
Elfido Marroquin-Aldana, 30, recently of Chicago, faces a Class A charge of gross sexual assault and a Class A charge of unlawful sexual contact in connection with incidents on June 27 and 29 of this year.
A statement by Detective Sgt. Ken Hatch of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office outlines the case, incorporating interviews with the girl and her mother.
According to the document, Marroquin-Aldana and his wife were a live-in laborer and nanny in the employ of the girl’s parents.
The girl’s parents met with police nearly a month after her mother learned of the assaults from physical symptoms and from the girl’s statements. The mother told Hatch she didn’t immediately report the crime due to her fear that Marroquin-Aldana might attempt to “have her deported” as she has “immigration issues.”
The girl later detailed multiple incidents, including oral and vaginal rape, to Damariscotta Police Officer Jennifer Mitkus.
Chicago Police arrested Marroquin-Aldana in early August. He was transported to Two Bridges Regional Jail, where he is being held in lieu of $100,000 cash bail.
His arraignment is scheduled for Thurs., Dec. 1 at 8:30 a.m. His defense attorney, James Wheeler, did not return a message left Nov. 22.
In Maine, a Class A crime is the most serious classification, punishable by up to 40 years incarceration and a $50,000 fine.
