Last week at the company’s annual meeting, workers’ compensation insurer MEMIC recognized six of its more than 20,000 policyholders for outstanding performance in their workers’ compensation programs.
Hammond Lumber Company of Belgrade, with a store in Damariscotta, was among the winners.
At the Portland Museum of Art, MEMIC President and CEO John T. Leonard paid tribute to Hammond Lumber for its efforts in workplace safety.
“Hammond Lumber Company is to be congratulated for their consistently high level of commitment to their employees,” said Leonard. “They are role models for their peers.”
One of the largest and most prominent building material suppliers in Maine since its founding 60 years ago, Hammond Lumber employs more than 400 people in 12 locations across the state. Hammond Lumber is insured with MEMIC through independent insurance agent Cross Insurance.
The award was based on Hammond Lumber’s consistent, accountability-based approach to worker safety, demonstrating a commitment initiated by senior management and sustained by each one of the company’s associates.
