A couple from Hampden were both arrested in recent days after a woman allegedly ran the man over after she walked in on him allegedly attempting to sexually assault a 12-year-
old girl, according to a press release from Lincoln County Sheriff’s Lt. Michael Murphy.

According to the release, deputies responded to a home on East Neck Road in Nobleboro at about 11:30 p.m. March 28 for the report of a domestic disturbance and found James
Oliver, 48, of Hampden, had been struck and run over by a car in the driveway.
A fight had allegedly ensued between Oliver, who is a convicted sex offender, and his girlfriend, Linda Currier, 53, of Hampden, after she walked in on him allegedly
attempting to sexually assault a 12-year-old girl, according to the release.
“The fight continued outside where Currier allegedly ran over Oliver with a car,” Murphy wrote. “All adult parties at the residence had apparently been drinking at
the time.”
Oliver was taken to LincolnHealth – Miles Campus and later to Maine Medical Center for treatment of a serious but not life-threatening injury to his leg, and was
arrested upon his release March 30, according to the release.
Oliver was charged with attempted gross sexual assault, unlawful sexual touching, and failing to comply with the sex offender registration act (second offense) for
allegedly not updating his address.
Originally taken to Two Bridges Regional Jail after his arrest, Oliver was transferred to the Maine State Prison Infirmary in Warren on March 31, where he is being
held pending a court appearance, according to the release.
Currier was also arrested and charged with operating under the influence and aggravated assault, according to the release. She was taken to Two Bridges and later
released on bail.
“The young girl did not receive any injuries requiring immediate medical attention and was taken from the scene and cared for by her family,” Murphy wrote.
