William M. Harrison, 40, Charleston, Mass. pleaded not guilty, Oct. 3, on a charge of Class B aggravated assault. Harrison allegedly attacked former Maine State Trooper Gregory Vrooman, as a verdict was about to be delivered in a case of unlawful sexual contact with a young girl.
Harrison’s attorney and the prosecution jointly requested an extension of the 21-day period allowed for motions. The judge approved extending that period to 45 days.
Bail was set at $5000 cash or $50,000 surety.
The case was not scheduled and will go on a future list.
According to witnesses in Lincoln County Superior Court April 12, Harrison jumped a barrier and attacked Vrooman before the judge or jury had entered the courtroom, allegedly punching him multiple times in the face before he was subdued by law enforcement present in the courtroom at the time.
Vrooman, 46, of Nobleboro, was later found guilty of four counts of felony unlawful sexual contact with a minor, four counts of misdemeanor unlawful sexual touching with a minor, and four counts of misdemeanor assault.
Harrison was immediately arrested and charged with Class B aggravated assault. He was released from Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset on $5000 cash bail later that day.
