Brandon Gagnon, 23, of Wiscasset, discovered the pitfalls of speed and online tire shopping after an accident at the corner of Lowell Town Road and Jones Road in Wiscasset left his 1993 Acura Integra propped sideways against a mailbox.
Gagnon, appearing slightly dazed but unhurt as he waited for a wrecker, called the accident “crazy.”
“I had to climb out of the sunroof to get out,” Gagnon said.
The Acura left lengthy skid marks in the pavement leading up to the scene, but Gagnon blamed his misfortune on his worn tires in a recap of the seconds before impact.
“The rear tires came free,” he said. “I’m waiting on new tires.” Gagnon said he purchased tires from the online auction site eBay but, he said, “it’s already been eight days.”
Lieutenant John Allan of the Wiscasset Police Department offered a somewhat different take on the accident’s cause. “Definitely speed was a factor,” Allan said. “That was the only factor.”
No charges will be filed against Gagnon, but Allen arrested Gagnon’s cousin and sole passenger, Adam Sansouci, on an outstanding warrant for furnishing liquor to minors.
