The Waldoboro Police arrested two mid coast men for kidnapping as the result of a multi agency investigation, leading to the seizure of 10 pounds of marijuana and multiple firearms on Jan. 19.
Edwin Duquette, 43, of Waldoboro and Brian Cookson, 43, of Nobleboro were arrested for various charges related to the kidnapping following an investigation that involved the Waldoboro Police Department, Lincoln County Sheriffs Department, Maine State Police, Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, Federal Bureau of Investigation and Nashua, NH Police Department.
According to a press release from Waldoboro Police Chief Bill Labombarde, Waldoboro Police received information from the FBI that a 28-year-old, East Bridgewater, Mass. man was allegedly being held at Duquette’s residence on Flanders Corner Rd. in Waldoboro. The information they received indicated the man was being held as the result of an apparent drug deal gone bad, in Nashua, N.H.
Waldoboro Police and Detectives from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office took Duquette into custody as the result of a traffic stop on Orff’s Corner Rd at around 10:30 a.m. Monday.
According to Labombarde, the stop was initiated when Duquette attempted to leave his residence with the victim. Duquette was arrested and charged with criminal restraint (a Class C crime) and terrorizing, (Class D). Duquette was subsequently transported to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset, where bail was set at $5000 cash.
During a search of Duquette’s residence and business, Smokin’ Annie’s, law enforcement seized about 10 pounds of marijuana with a street value of approximately $10,000 and 13 firearms with ammunition.
Cookson was arrested at the Two Bridges Jail where he surrendered himself to Chief Labombarde Jan. 20. Cookson was charged with kidnapping (Class A) and terrorizing (Class D). Bail was set for Cookson at $5,000 cash.
Labombarde said this case is part of an on-going investigation. He said additional arrests including State or Federal charges are expected.
Duquette and Cookson both posted bail and were released from Two Bridges Regional Jail as of press time Jan. 21.
