The Damariscotta Police Department’s investigation into an Aug. 23 break-in at Yellowfront Grocery continues.
Damariscotta Police Officer Kyle Sylvester attended a meeting in Augusta Tuesday, Aug. 25, with multiple agencies, including the Maine State Police and the Augusta Police Department, in relation to the Yellowfront burglary.
“We are actively pursuing multiple suspects we believe are responsible for multiple burglaries of a similar style in the Midcoast area,” Sylvester said.
Sylvester said the break-ins typically include at least two people who enter the store. It is believed there are people outside the building keeping watch to prevent the people inside from being caught. The burglars cut phone lines in an attempt to stop alarms from alerting law enforcement.
The suspects in the Yellowfront break-in cut the telephone lines when they entered. The store has a backup alarm in place that alerted the police. Nothing was reported missing.
Sylvester said there was a break-in of a similar nature at Yellowfront in 2009.
Maine State Police Trooper Adam McNaughton said an investigation is active and no details could be provided at this time.
