Jason Simonds, the former owner of the Computer Connection, has started the Wicked Good Taxi service based in the Damariscotta/Newcastle/Bristol area.
Simonds offers a variety of services including rides for senior citizens who no longer drive, sailors who pull into a dock and want a ride to the store, or folks who want to hire a “designated driver” for an evening out on the town.
Senior citizens will receive a 10 percent discount, while those going to a doctor’s office will be given a 25 percent discount.
“This includes folks who go to the eye doctor for an exam and have their eyes dilated and are unable to drive home from their appointment,” Simonds said.
Although he has been in business for just a few weeks, Simonds said he has given rides to folks who dropped their car off at a repair shop, and seniors who live in assisted living facilities who just want to go to the store. “I feel I can provide a service. It is good to be able to help some folks who need a ride,” he said.
Taxi customers will be charged a pick up fee plus $1.50 per mile for their services.
Under Maine law, a taxi service is required to be insured and purchase a special taxi plate in order to charge customers for a ride. Simonds said he is fully insured and licensed.
Based in Damariscotta, Simonds’ services can be accessed by calling 563-6225.
