Jefferson citizens voted to approve one referendum question and rejected another, when they went to the polls Nov. 6.
Question 1 asked the town to approve a condemnation order that selectmen said would make it easier for the town to maintain Goose Hill Road. It passed by a vote of 751-672.
The question that appeared on the Nov. 6 ballot read: “Shall the Town (1) approve a Condemnation Order adopted by the Municipal Officers on September 20, 2012, that cures defects in the Town’s title to an easement for highway purposes in the road known as the Goose Hill Road, being a strip of land three rods in width, the centerline of which is the center of the current travelled way along the Goose Hill Road running from Route 126 in Jefferson to the Waldoboro town line, and (2) appropriate not damages as compensation for the aforementioned easement.”
Jefferson voters rejected amendments to the town’s building ordinance by a vote of 705 ‘no,’ and 648 ‘yes’ votes.
Those changes would have altered language regarding the minimum setback for buildings and deleted the words “alley” and “roads” in Section 11, regarding definitions.
