The George Hartman family cottage, on Flagg Road in Jefferson, received extensive damage Tuesday morning, when a 1992 Toyota Tercel driven by Garrett Bourque, 42, of Jefferson, crashed into the front corner. LCSO investigating officer Peter Kenyon estimates the cottage received $40,000 in damages.
Bourque was not injured in the accident that totaled his vehicle. Kenyon said driver inattention was the cause of the accident.
Bourque hit a large rock in front of the camp, that sent him airborne and into the front corner on the north side of the camp. Kenyon said preliminary estimates had Bourque going 20 mph at the time of the crash.
The cottage was moved at least an inch and a half from the impact. Central Maine Power Company was called to the scene to disconnect the power because the power line to the camp was stretched tight from the displacement of the camp.
