Jefferson voters filled eight municipal position when they voted in referendum town meeting March 26.
Selectman Gregory Johnston was unopposed for re-election and received 163 votes.
The following candidates were elected to the budget committee without opposition: Scott Henry – 145 votes, Wayne Parlin – 147 votes, Michael Sprague – 143 votes and Charles Squires – 139 votes.
Current Jefferson School Committee Chairman Robert Westrich was re-elected with 136 votes. Joan Jackson was elected to the second of two positions on the school committee with 150 votes.
Road Commissioner Alan Johnston was unopposed for his position and received 165 votes.
All are three-year terms.
In further balloting, citizens approved all articles of the town meeting warrant, approving a total budget of $684,211. Of that figure $250,571 will pay for administration, $161,820 for protection and health, $263,580 for highways and $8240 will go to unclassified accounts.
Article 10, authorizing selectmen to appropriate funds from undesignated surplus to meet unexpected emergencies, passed 150-41. At a previous hearing, selectmen told voters this would allow the board to add to funds for general assistance and winter road maintenance, if needed.
Jefferson currently has more than $1.3 million in surplus, which allows the town to operate throughout the year without borrowing against anticipated revenue.
Article 13 called for amendments to Jefferson’s building ordinance that were designed to clarify the existing ordinance. The changes were previously defeated at the polls, but passed March 26, 134-54.
The changes will primarily impact camp roads and developments such as Damariscotta Lake Farm Condominiums, where structures are already closer to the road than allowed in the pre-existing ordinance, according to Planning Board Chairman Ralph Martin.
Jefferson’s administration budget will drop by $4600 and the budget for protection and health will go down by $5590.
The cost of maintaining roads is budgeted to rise by $1680.
Due in large part to a change in state law that requires towns to take responsibility for maintaining veterans’ graves, the budget for unclassified accounts will rise by $540.
The closest vote was on Article 25, to appropriate $845 from unexpended surplus for the benefit of Midcoast Community Action. That measure passed, 106-80.
