The Jefferson Fire Department elected Walter Morris to be the new Jefferson Fire Chief at their meeting on April 15.
Morris was the Assistant Chief under Sheridan Bond, who stepped down in March. Morris is a nationally certified firefighting instructor and the Director of Maine Fire Training and Education.
Deputy Fire Chief Darren Walker said that he’s looking forward to working to under Morris, and that he thinks this will be a good administration.
“We’ve worked closely since he came to Jefferson five years ago, and we know what each other are thinking a lot of the time,” Walker said.
Walker and other members of the Jefferson Fire Department cited Morris’s extensive background, including serving as chief of a department in New York and running regional fire trainings before moving to Jefferson.
Morris was not available for comment, because he is attending a national firefighters’ convention in the Midwest. He will represent Jefferson at the conference, which gives firefighters from around the country a chance to view new firefighting equipment and attend special trainings and classes.
“All the guys love him,” said Don Hastings, a Jefferson Firefighter. “He’s a great guy and he’ll do a great job.”
