When Jefferson Community Day was canceled this year, many in Jefferson mourned the loss of a town-wide event that brought people together and provided a place for old and new friends to connect.
Jefferson Day was also an important fundraising venue for many local organizations, including the Ladies’ Aid of the Bunker Hill Church.
“A lot of people depend on Jefferson Day,” said Ladies’ Aid member Joan Ladner. “We want to give people that opportunity.”
The Ladies’ Aid will host a flea market and craft fair from 8 a.m. to noon on Sat., Aug. 14, at the Ladies’ Aid Hall on Bunker Hill Road in Jefferson.
The fair will also have a coffee and baked goods tables, featuring 25-year Ladies’ Aid President Gladys Johnston’s homemade donuts.
The day will be a chance for anyone who wants to, to set up a table and sell their wares and spend some time with members of the Jefferson community.
Tables cost $15, which will go to the Bunker Hill Ladies’ Aid, an organization that raises money to upkeep the historic Bunker Hill Church and Ladies’ Aid Hall. The Ladies’ Aid Hall is also the home of the Bunker Hill Grange.
“Up on the hill like this, the roofs seem to take a real beating,” Johnston said.
Although tough on the buildings, the spot at the top of hill gives the hall one of the best views in Jefferson. From the lot where the fair will be held, surrounding the hall and church, the view of Damariscotta Lake and the Camden Hills is fantastic.
“We’re praying it’s nice that day,” said “more than a member” Carol Hartman.
