The toughest part about the Jefferson Market losing their power for three days isn’t the amount of product that thawed out and couldn’t be sold, but the loss of business from being closed during that time.
“Had it happened on another day of the week it wouldn’t have been so bad,” store owner George Humphrey said.
The Jefferson Market on Rt. 32 in Jefferson lost their power around 2 a.m. Dec. 12 and gained it back on Sunday, Dec. 14 between noon and 1 p.m., according to a store clerk.
Humphrey said that he lost half of the store’s frozen food, which he gave out to citizens and store employees. He said he couldn’t refreeze the products that thawed and couldn’t sell what was lost.
“My product loss is not the biggest concern,” he said. “We lost the two biggest days of the week.”
The store sells a lot of take-out and much of the Friday and Saturday sales are attributed to these products, Humphrey said.
