A Jefferson woman was transported for injuries she suffered when her car went off the road and struck a tree in Jefferson the afternoon of July 23, according to Sgt. Brendan Kane of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
Mary Ann Porter, 86, of Jefferson, was operating a blue Oldsmobile sedan southbound on Route 32 when it went off the road and hit a tree, Kane said.
Porter allegedly said she was drowsy, and may have fallen asleep at the wheel, Kane said. She was wearing her seat belt and the car’s airbag did deploy, he said.
Jefferson Fire and Rescue responded to the scene. Porter was transported to Miles Memorial Hospital by Waldoboro EMS for her injuries, Kane said.
Alan Crowell, a spokesman for Miles Memorial Hospital, said Porter had been transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland. Porter’s status was unavailable as of this posting and more information will be added as it becomes available.
