A plate glass window was smashed and jewelry stolen from Gold/Smith Gallery on Sept. 19, said Boothbay Harbor Police Chief Robert Hasch.
Officer Larry Brown received notification from Lincoln County Communications of the alarm at the gallery at 2:51 a.m., and was at the scene at 2:54 a.m., said Hasch.
Hasch said the department is still working on determining the total value of everything that was taken. “We do believe it is a high value burglary,” he said.
Hasch said his department has been working with multiple agencies on the Gold/Smith case.
Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Detective Robert McFetridge said the LCSO has sent out information on the burglary to jewelry stores and business that buy gold and jewelry to help them locate any of the stolen items.
LCSO is currently in a supportive role, McFetridge said.
Hasch said the Boothbay Harbor area has seen an increase in burglaries and attempted burglaries over the last three or four years. “We’re really trying to work with local businesses on security, camera upgrades and those sorts of things,” he said.
The department has been able to solve a few of those crimes, but it’s one of those things that they would really rather avoid, Hasch said.
Hasch, Officer Brown, and Sergeant Patrick Higgins are the investigators involved with the case, Hasch said.
