Knox County law enforcement agencies, including the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and the Camden, Rockland, Rockport, and Thomaston police departments, are requesting the public’s help regarding burglaries at local businesses.
In the last 10 days, three Knox County businesses have been burglarized in the middle of the night. Safes have been broken into and thousands of dollars stolen. Law enforcement is asking business owners to make nightly deposits to help ensure safekeeping of their cash.
With a holiday weekend approaching, it is typical that there may be more cash on hand than normal and the thieves are aware of that. If businesses are concerned about carrying cash out of the building at night, they are encouraged to contact their local law enforcement agency for an escort to their night depository.
The general public is also encouraged to call 911 about any suspicious activity, particularly in the vicinity of businesses, for law enforcement to check on. Members of the public should not assume an alarm they hear is automatically called in.
