Forty Lincoln Academy students and several school employees with their families plan to move into the school’s new dormitory by the end of February vacation.
The private Newcastle high school will empty four temporary housing locations – one on Hillcrest Avenue, one in the Newcastle Square building on Main Street, and two on River Road in the former Flying Cloud Bed & Breakfast and an adjacent building.
Five new students will join 35 students from the temporary housing, Lincoln Academy spokeswoman Jenny Mayher said. The move will consolidate most boarding students in two on-campus buildings – 24 in the Hall House and 40 in the new dormitory.
Five more boarding students live with area families.
The new students will bring the total enrollment of boarding students to 69, Mayher said. The school expects the number to rise to 78 in the fall, where it will remain. The school has no plans to exceed 78 boarding students, she said.
The dormitory includes six faculty units. Four families and two single teachers will live in the building for a total of 15 non-student residents. The building also has three offices.
February vacation will take place Feb. 16-20. Lincoln Academy Director of Resident Life Ken Stevenson plans to see the move complete by Sunday, Feb. 22 as long as construction remains on schedule, Mayher said.
