The Lincoln Academy softball team defeated Gardiner 2-0 to win the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference championship at Thomas College in Waterville Saturday, June 6.
The Eagles scored both of their runs in the top of the first inning. Chloe Hallowell hit a bunt single and Morgan Achorn hit an inside-the-park home run down the right-field line.
Abby Farrin pitched a shutout for the win.
Morgan Achorn was also responsible for a key defensive play in the second inning, fielding a single in center field and throwing to her sister, catcher Miranda Achorn, to cut down a Gardiner baserunner.
The Eagles played excellent defense throughout.
L.A. was 15-1 going into the game; Gardiner was 16-0. The teams did not meet during the regular season.
