Conor Smith, a write-in candidate who entered the school committee race in Damariscotta the day before the election, defeated another late entry, Dan Pinkham, 40-30.
Damariscotta voters also rejected a zoning amendment 92-85. The amendment would have affected a handful of properties along Route 1 and Belvedere Road. It did not elicit any negative feedback during the public hearing process.
Damariscotta residents approved the secondary education budget a second time, 151-29, and voted to continue the second budget vote, known as the budget validation referendum process, for at least three years, 100-73.
Selectmen David Atwater and Ronn Orenstein and Great Salt Bay Sanitary District Trustee Ray McConnell won unopposed races with 143, 135 and 157 votes, respectively.
