The Wiscasset Police Department and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office are investigating reports of two burglaries at restaurants in Wiscasset the morning of Sept. 23.
The Sea Basket Restaurant, at 303 Bath Rd., and Hunter’s Breakfast, at 560 Gardiner Rd., reported break-ins to law enforcement when the businesses opened, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Detective Sgt. Ron Rollins said.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to Hunter’s Breakfast and the Wiscasset Police Department responded to the Sea Basket Restaurant, Wiscasset Police Chief Troy Cline said.
Both buildings were forcibly entered and items were taken, Rollins said. Rollins declined to specify what items were missing.
The Wiscasset Police Department and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office are investigating to determine if the two crimes are connected.
According to Cline, the break-ins occurred between the time the restaurants closed Sept. 22 and opened the morning of Sept. 23.
The break-ins did not affect the restaurants’ ability to conduct business. Both the Sea Basket Restaurant and Hunter’s Breakfast are operating as normal, restaurant personnel said.
In the last month, there were burglaries at Yellowfront Grocery and The Cook’s Corner in Damariscotta. According to Rollins, the sheriff’s office is “keeping an open mind” about a possible connection between the recent break-ins in Wiscasset and the crimes in Damariscotta.
The attempted burglary at the Yellowfront Grocery is now part of a multi-agency investigation, due to its similarities to burglaries in other areas of the state.
Anyone with information about the break-ins in Wiscasset is asked to call the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at 882-7332.
