Lincoln County’s Emergency Management Agency has issued an advisory alerting area residents to prepare for what could be a significant winter storm beginning sometime Friday.
As of this posting the exact storm track remains unknown, but according to Lincoln County EMA director Tim Pellerin, early forecasts call for what could be a “60 hour duration event.”
That 60-hour period could encompass the entire range of possible weather from nothing at all to light rains or snow to heavy snows and high winds, Pellerin said.
“This is an emergent nature and people should pay attention to this,” Pellerin said. “We don’t know the exact storm track but I am asking people to prepare.”
According to Pellerin, appropriate precautions should including stocking up on food, water and medications for people and pets. Residents should make efforts to ensure they can get out at the height of the storm if absolutely necessary and alert friends to be aware of their situation.
Strong winds are expected, Pellerin said. There is the potential for coastal flooding and extensive power outages are possible.
“I am urging people to be vigilant,” he said. “Take steps to ensure they are prepared. Monitor the weather service for information. Make sure the car is gassed up and that they can get out at the height of the storm if they need to. I am urging people to stock up on extra supplies, materials, batteries, blankets. Make sure their pets are taken care of.
“It’s possible if the storm comes in the way they are saying there could be major power outages.”
Pellerin said his office will continue to monitor the storm track and issue further updates as needed. Another statement is likely by Thursday afternoon, Pellerin said.
