Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy Peter Kenyon was been placed on paid administrative leave after being issued a summons on charges of violating condition of release.
According to court documents obtained by The Lincoln County News, Kenyon is charged with being an accomplice to a crime committed by Melissa McClure, 31 of Alna, who was arrested Feb. 9 and charged with domestic-violence assault.
Lincoln County Administrator John O’Connell confirmed Kenyon was on paid administrative leave until the matter is resolved. Kenyon has pled not guilty to the charges and is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 3.
The crime is considered a Class E misdemeanor and carries a maximum penalty of 6 months year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
Lincoln County District Attorney Geoffrey Rushlau said his office is assisting in the investigation, but the case is under the overall supervision of the Maine State Attorney Generals Office.
“Because of conflict of interest concerns we typically do not like to prosecute law enforcement officials we deal with,” said Rushlau.
Kenyon, Kenyon’s attorney William Avantaggio and Lincoln County Sheriff Todd Brackett did not return phone calls seeking comment as of press time.
