The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an online post that contains a threat to “shoot up … Jefferson High School.”
“I’m going to shoot up my school after finals next Monday, to anyone that attends Jefferson High School in Maine, I am only targeting the teacher,” the post reads. “Stay home please.”
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office released a screenshot of the post, but redacted the name or screen name of the individual.
Jefferson does not have a high school; many students in grades nine through 12 attend Erskine Academy in China or Lincoln Academy in Newcastle.
“The post was not sent directly to any known school,” according to a press release from the Lincoln Co
unty Sheriff’s Office. “Maine officials were notified by concerned citizens from out of state who observed the posting online.”
As a precautionary measure, two sheriff’s deputies were posted at Jefferson Village School, the K-8 public school in Jefferson; and a state trooper was posted at Erskine. Authorities notified Lincoln Academy, but LA students are already on summer vacation.
The Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit is assisting the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office with its investigation.
