Both Damariscotta and Newcastle Fire Departments responded to a shed fire on the Lessner Rd. just after noon on Dec. 12.
Newcastle provided mutual aid on the call, according to Chief Clayton Huntley. Their pumper truck drew water from Biscay Pond and transported it back to the scene.
Huntley explained the fire was almost fully involved when firefighters arrived on scene. It took just under a half-hour from the fire tones to get the fire under control, he said.
“We are unsure of the cause yet,” Huntley said. “Our firefighters are still digging away in there.”
Just after 1 p.m., no flames were visible from the structure. The shed was darkened from smoke damage. Damariscotta Fire Chief Neil Genthner, Jr. and firefighters were busy removing soaked debris from inside.
As of press time, Genthner was unable to be reached for further comment on the incident.
