Marianne Blay, 55, of Augusta, is in good condition after sustaining injuries to the head and chest after a motorcycle-truck accident the morning of July 15.
Lifeflight transported Blay to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston after the motorcycle, on which she was riding as a passenger, hit a truck in Dresden.
The motorcycle’ operator, Joseph Russell, 53, of Augusta, sustained a broken leg as well as cuts and bruises. Russell was transported by ambulance to Maine General Hospital in Augusta. The driver of the truck, James Crockett, 48, of Woolwich, was unhurt.
According to Sergeant Jason Nein of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Dept., Russell and Blay were traveling southbound on Cedar Grove Road in Dresden behind Crockett. As Crockett made a left turn into a dirt road, Russell attempted to pass Crockett, striking the driver’s side of Crockett’s truck.
According to Nein, the impact “redirected” Russell’s motorcycle across the northbound shoulder and into a ditch.
Neither Blay nor Russell were wearing helmets, Nein said.
Rescue personnel at the scene did not consider Blay’s injuries life threatening, Nein said. The accident shut down traffic on Cedar Grove Road for about an hour, he said.
Crockett’s 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 sustained $2000 in damage. Russell’s 2002 Harley Davidson sustained $4000 in damage.
Nein is conducting a reconstruction of the accident.
