A malfunctioning motor filled two Lincoln Academy classrooms with smoke and called Newcastle and Damariscotta fire departments to the Newcastle school late Tuesday night, Nov. 18.
Newcastle Fire Chief Clayton Huntley said the motor powered a heating unit on the roof of the school’s Ryder Science Wing.
“Newcastle fire and Damariscotta fire departments came to the school and checked out the roof unit and ventilated the building,” Huntley said.
The fire departments arrived at Lincoln Academy around 9:20 p.m. and left around 10:45 p.m.
“While we ventilated the rooms, we turned off the power to the section of the building, losing heat. The other two sections of the building have heat, though, and the classrooms should be fine today,” Huntley said. “It really was a minor call, and we’re glad about that.”
Lincoln Academy classes were not affected and school was in session Nov. 19.
