Lincoln County Article Results

Numerous referendum articles went before Lincoln County voters on Tuesday, with Somerville, Waldoboro, Nobleboro, and Whitefield officials reporting results.

Somerville

Municipal article two, which asked whether the town of Somerville should change the position of Tax Collector/Treasurer from an elected to an appointed position, was voted down. There were 165 ‘no’ votes against 98 ‘yes’ votes.

The second article was approved by a total of 176 ‘yes’ votes against 84 ‘no’ votes. This article asked the town to approve the school reorganization plan prepared by the Sheepscot Valley Reorganization Planning Committee. Towns included in this plan are: Alna, Chelsea, Palermo, Westport Island, Whitefield, Wiscasset, Windsor and Somerville.

Waldoboro

Ballot box volunteers were up until 3 a.m. and were able to count state and national votes. They returned later in the morning of Nov. 5 to count municipal articles. These results will appear in The Lincoln County News online as soon as the information comes in.

Nobleboro

The single municipal article asked if the entire town of Nobleboro should be included in the Great Salt Bay Sanitary District. The article passed with 582 ‘yes’ votes against 497 ‘no’ votes.

“I’m pleased that the voters approved this article,” said GSBSD Director Mary Bowers. “It will make the administrative process so much easier for the town of Nobleboro.”

Whitefield

The municipal article posed to Whitefield voters asked for the approval of the Regional School Unit plan prepared by the Sheepscot Valley Reorganization Planning Committee. The plan was approved with 875 ‘yes’ votes and 503 ‘no’ votes. See the accompanying story by The Lincoln County News’ reporter Lucy Martin.
