Voters in the Lincoln County Towns followed statewide trends in selecting Republican Paul LePage to oppose Democrat Elizabeth (Libby) Mitchell in the November race for governor.
Republican voters gave LePage, the mayor of Waterville, 2498 votes over second place Les Otten, a businessman, who drew 761 votes. Democrats picked State Senate Leader Mitchell, giving her 1422 votes to a surprising second place finisher Rosa Scarcelli who polled 892.
In the ballot questions, by a nearly two to one measure, voters rejected a law passed by the last legislative session that would lower the state income tax while shifting much of the tax burden to the sales tax, including heavy hikes in lodging and food and beverages.
Democrat U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree was unopposed for renomination. She will face Republican Dean Peter Scontras in the fall.
Locally, incumbent Republican State Senate Candidate David Trahan will face off against Democrat Michael Devin in District 20.
In House District 50, Republican Dana Dow will face Democrat Mark J. Berger in the November election.
In House District 53, incumbent Republican Les Fossel will face Democratic challenger Leola Roberts.
In House District 61, incumbent Bruce MacDonald will face Republican Frank L. Sample in the fall.
Legislature: Congress, District 1: Republican Dean Scontras (63 votes), Democrat Chellie Pingree (59). State Senate, District 20: Republican David Trahan (76), Democrat Christopher Johnson (48), and District 53: Republican Les Fossel (83), Democrat Leola Roberts (54).
State Referendum: Boothbay voted “Yes” on Question 1, approved four economic development bond issues.
Legislature: Republican House candidate Frank L. (Linc) Sample was chosen to oppose incumbent Democrat Rep. Bruce MacDonald for House District 61. For Senate District 20, incumbent Republican David Trahan runs against Democrat Christopher Johnson.
State Referendum: Voters said “Yes” to Question one, approved four bond questions funding economic development projects.
Governor Primary: Bremen selected Democrat Rosa Scarcelli and Republican Paul LePage.
Legislative races: For District 50 primary: Democrat Olivia Atherton and Republican Dana Dow.
State Referendum: The first three state questions passed, and questions four and five failed in Bremen.
State Referendum: Bristol voted ‘Yes’ on Question 1.
Legislature: Incumbent Republican Sen. David Trahan will face Democrat Christopher Johnson for Sen. District 20. Incumbent Republican Rep. Jon McKane will face off against Democrat Michael Devin in District 51.
Other national and county candidates were unopposed.
Jennifer MacDonald was elected to the Great Salt Bay School board with six write in votes, replacing outgoing Jim Cosgrove.
Incumbent Winton Jacobs was selected as a write-in as trustee for Great Salt Bay Sanitary District.
School budgets: Damariscotta voters approved the GSB budget and the town’s share of Lincoln Academy’s budget, and approved continuing the current budget validation process.
Governor’s Primary: Damariscotta voters selected Republican Paul LePage and Libby Mitchell.
State Referendum: All five were approved.
Legislative races: Incumbent Republican David Trahan will face off Democrat Christopher Johnson for Senate District 20, and incumbent Republican Jon McKane will run against Democrat Michael Devin for House District 51.
Republican District Attorney Geoffrey Rushlau and Democrat Sheriff Todd Brackett were unopposed.
Congress: District 1: Republican Dean Scontras (156 votes), Democrat Chellie Pingree (143).
Legislature: State Senate, District 19: Republican David Kaler (169), Democrat Seth Goodall (156), and for District 53: Republican Les Fossel (200), Democrat Leola Roberts (126).
Governor Primary: In Edgecomb, voters are sending Democrat Elizabeth Mitchell to face off against Republican Paul LePage.
State Referendum: Edgecomb voters passed Questions one through four, and defeated Question 5.
Governor Primary: Jefferson nominated Democrat Elizabeth Mitchell and Republican Paul LePage.
Legislature: Dana Dow received District 50 with 117 votes.
State Referendums: Question 1 passed in Jefferson 570 to 204. Question two was a dead tie, 388 to 388, and the other three bond issues all failed.
Governor’s primary: Newcastle voters selected Republican Paul LePage and Democrat Libby Mitchell.
State Referendum: All five were approved.
School budgets: Voters approved school budgets, and support continuing the validation process for the school budgets.
Legislative races: Incumbent Republican David Trahan will face off Democrat Christopher Johnson for Senate District 20, and incumbent Republican Jon McKane will run against Democrat Michael Devin for House District 51.
Republican County District Attorney Geoffrey A. Rushlau and Democratic incumbent Sheriff Todd Brackett were also unopposed.
Governor Primary: Democrat Elizabeth Mitchell faces off against Republican Paul LePage.
Legislature; District 50 race: Republican Dana Dow and Democrat Olivia Atherton.
State Referendum: Nobleboro passed Questions 1, 2, and 3, and Questions 4, 5 failed.

State Referendum: Question 1 passed (114 to 56), and voted down the other four questions by sizable margins.
They also approved five ballot questions including rejecting the law which would have shifted the state’s tax structure by cutting the income tax and increasing certain sales tax items, including lodging and food.
Incumbent unopposed Republicans Senator David Trahan and Representative Jon McKane were selected to oppose Democrat Senate candidate Christopher Johnson and House candidate Michael Devin.
They also rejected a state tax change in a referendum question while four other referendum questions favoring statewide economic development bond issues were approved.
School budget: SAD/RSU 40 passed.
Town: Voters rejected $97,000 funding for the town manager, and defeated $77,000 in funding for the town assessing department. Voters also rejected Article 3 a ballot measure designed to authorize selectmen to spend 3/12 of last year’s budget should any municipal budget question fail to pass.
State Referendum: Waldoboro voters approved all referendum questions.
Town officials: First Selectman George Richardson and Road Commissioner Garry Cromwell were elected, unopposed.
Governor Primary: Democrat Rosa Scarcelli, and Republican Paul LePage.
Budget committee: Dennis Dunbar (226), William Hopkins (202), Richard DeVries (191) and Morton Mendes (170), Stanley Lane (126) finished fifth.
Budget Committee: Five other budget committee seats were open. According to Wiscasset Town Clerk Chris Wolfe, leading write-in candidates: outgoing selectman Phil DiVece (25), Steve Mehrl (17) and Prior Morrell (7). For two-year terms, two positions are open. Schumann will fill one. Morrell received the most votes for the other with six. For a single one-year term, DiVece garnered seven votes.
Local issues: Wiscasset rejected (639-343) $331,510 for the police department; approved 605-491 for expenditures of $13, 810 for community organizations. The town rejected $43,995 for waterfront and harbors; $133,828 for municipal planning and code enforcement, 628-468; $20,00 for a portable generator for municipal facilities (555-536), and $60,365 to the airport (566-532).
