Lincoln County’s Emergency Management Agency reports the county is one of two hardest hit areas in the state following a major storm front that passed through during the overnight hours Feb. 25, 26.
An estimated 26,000 county residents are currently without power, according to Lincoln County EMA director Tim Pellerin. As of 9 a.m., Feb. 26, the hardest hit areas appear to be the Boothbay and Bristol peninsulas and Waldoboro.
“Power is not going to be restored much before Monday,” Pellerin said. “People without power now should prepare themselves to be without power for two to three days.”
Currently warming shelters are up and running at the Dresden and Boothbay Fire Stations. Other shelters may be opened as needed, Pellerin said.
People who are in need of assistance are advised to contact their local Emergency Management director before contacting the Lincoln County EMA office at 882-7559, Pellerin said.
Of course, people in an emergency situation are advised to call 9-1-1 as usual, Pellerin said.
Waldoboro EMA director Kyle Santheson reported the power in his town went out about 7 or 8 p.m. Feb. 25 but things are quiet in the wake of the storm.
“At this point there are no major emergencies we are dealing with, just the inconvenience of road closures and power outages.” Santheson said earlier this morning. “At this point CMP is focused on safety not restoring power… Thankfully it is not bitterly cold today.”
