Past entries in the informal #LCNnme365 reader photo contest on Instagram. A new contest, in which readers will select a monthly winner, will officially launch Sunday, Jan. 1.
The Lincoln County News has launched a reader photo contest to showcase the talent of local photographers and bring even more photos of local people, places, and happenings to the LCN, both online and in print.
“We are always looking for ways to encourage readers to interact with the newspaper – both our 140-year-old print edition and our newer channels, online at lcnme.com and on social media,” LCN Editor J.W. Oliver said. “Lincoln County offers a limitless supply of natural beauty – it is a photographer’s paradise – and we look forward to seeing our readers bring more of this beauty to our pages.”
While landscape photos will likely make up many of the entries, the LCN welcomes photos of any subject of interest, such as photos that illustrate Lincoln County’s heritage or the character of Lincoln County people.
Readers have two options for how they can enter the contest. Instagram users must include the hashtag #LCNme365 in the caption of a photo and tag The Lincoln County News Instagram account, @lcnme. The Lincoln County News will comment on the photo to confirm the entry.
The LCN will also accept submissions by email at photo@lcnme.com.
Only photos taken in Lincoln County or having a clear link to Lincoln County are eligible for the contest. Entries will be posted in a photo gallery on lcnme.com each week for readers to view.
LCN staffers will vote on the best photo each week. The photographer’s name and any watermarks on the photos will be hidden during the judging. The LCN will post the winning photo on its Instagram account.
At the end of the month, readers will choose the photo of the month from the weekly winners via a poll at lcnme.com/photo-contest. Each reader can only vote once.
The voting period for the monthly winner will run from 5 p.m. the last Wednesday of the month to 5 p.m. the following Tuesday. The winning photo will run on the front page of The Lincoln County News the first week of the following month.
In addition, the monthly winner will receive a $50 gift certificate to a local business from the contest’s monthly sponsor. The sponsor for January is King Eider’s Pub, of Damariscotta.
