The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Tornado Watch for Lincoln County on Sat. that was effective until 10 p.m. A Tornado Watch means that the environment contains the elements needed to produce a tornado. In the event that a tornado is produced or that it’s production is imminent, the NWS will issue a Tornado Warning.
Earlier on Sat. the Tornado Watch was combined with a Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued in regard to a large storm that traversed Lincoln County from Dresden to Bristol from approximately 6:12 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. The storm had a history of high winds up to 60 mph and damaging golf ball sized hail, according to the NWS.
Lincoln County weathered the storm well, with no reports of significant damage. Traffic was reported slowing or stopping on Rt. 1 due to high winds and heavy rainfall, and a possible lightning strike was reported near a home in Bristol. The Severe Thunderstorm Warning was lifted at 7:15 p.m.
The NWS advises all residents to be prepared in the event of severe weather. If a tornado appears to be imminent or in the area, the NWS advises residents to take shelter in the lowest part of your residence, preferably a basement. If that option is not available, then use blankets, pillows, mattresses and other heavy items to cover up and stay away from windows.
The Lincoln County News website will continue to track this situation and post any additional information here as soon as it becomes available.
