A free responsible seller training session for owners, managers and employees of stores and businesses in Lincoln County that sell alcohol will take place on Wed., Nov. 5, from 12:30-5 p.m., at Bintliff’s Ocean Grille in Edgecomb.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the Police Departments of Boothbay Harbor, Damariscotta, Waldoboro and Wiscasset have been busy personally delivering invitations to the area businesses. The training is made possible by Healthy Lincoln County, a Healthy Maine Partnership. HLC’s coalition for Substance Abuse and Underage Drinking Prevention includes law enforcement, parents, youth, school and medical professionals.
The Alcohol Seller Training is a state approved program facilitated by veteran liquor enforcement officer Frank Lyons of BC Consultants.
It will include discussion about the effects of alcohol on the body, liquor liability laws, identifying minors and visibly intoxicated persons (VIPs), carding practices, false ID detection, the importance of having good written policy and the impact of alcohol on public health and safety. Those completing the training receive a certificate and will be registered with the Maine Department of Public Safety, Liquor Licensing for a period of three years.
Law enforcement in Lincoln County strongly encourages all local retailers who hold a liquor license to attend this free training. They are partnering with Youth Promise/Healthy Lincoln County in an effort to decrease underage and problem drinking throughout the county.
Pre-registration is required as space is limited. To register contact Youth Promise/Healthy Lincoln County at 563-6123.
