A fire in a metal building on Friendship Road in Waldoboro, that destroyed a 36-foot fiberglass lobsterboat, is still being investigated, according to Sgt. Ken Grimes of the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Grimes said an examination of the scene was completed during the days immediately following the fire that was reported shortly after 10 p.m. June 21.
“We spent a fair amount of time over the weekend conducting interviews in the area,” Grimes said. “We are continuing with the investigation.”
Waldoboro Asst. Fire Chief Bill Maxwell said the 36-foot Wayne Beal lobsterboat, belonging to Daniel Reed Jr. of Damariscotta, was in a 65-by-40-foot Quonset hut type structure. The building is the property of Donald Simmons.
“It was 2:36 a.m. when we cleared the scene,” Maxwell said. “The only wood is at the front part, where there’s a wall and sliding door, and at the back wall. Those both ends of the building were gone and the boat was the only thing in the building of any value.”
He said there were also a few tools in the structure.
No one was injured in the blaze.
Maxwell said fire departments from Friendship, Nobleboro and Warren responded to the scene. The Jefferson Fire Department provided station coverage for Waldoboro. Waldoboro Emergency Medical Services were also standing by.
Grimes asked that anyone with information about this fire to contact the Fire Marshal’s Office at 626-3870.
