The Lincoln County Amateur Radio Team is offering assistance to anyone in Lincoln County who may be attempting to contact anyone affected by Hurricane Florence in or around North Carolina.
As power outages and other issues affect traditional means of communications during the hurricane, amateur radio operators have set up a “hurricane net” to maintain contact, according to Lincoln County Emergency Management Agency Director Casey Stevens.
Local amateur radio operators can contact their counterparts in the area of the storm, who can arrange for welfare checks. The North Carolina operators would then get a message back to Lincoln County, which would relay the message to the individual who initiated the check.
To request a welfare check, call Stevens at 380-6187.
