Over the past five years the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has recalled over 9 million cribs due to strangulation, entrapment issues or injuries. On June 24 another very large crib recall of over 2.2 million cribs was announced.
There were reports of 27 babies using drop rail cribs that have become entrapped and even suffocated, prompting this massive recall. These cribs were manufactured by seven different companies.
A local rental business: Boothbay Baby Rentals, LLC (BBR) has recently switched all of their drop-rail cribs to non-drop rail cribs in anticipation of this recall. They now carry cribs that exceed the current safety standards. In addition they are supporting the local economy by finding a Maine-Made crib manufacturer.
It is a costly expense getting all new equipment, but Boothbay Baby Rentals believes there is no dollar amount that can be put on a child’s safety. They check recall lists daily to keep ahead of any safety recalls on their baby equipment. They suggest anyone currently using a drop rail crib that is listed in this recall, stop using it immediately and contact the manufacturer to receive the free repair kit to immobilize the drop-sides.
Anyone who owns a business that uses drop rail cribs for guests or sells used baby equipment, please discontinue using/selling these products.
Please contact Christy or Murray Perce with Boothbay Baby Rentals, LLC at 687-6232 for assistance getting these free repair kits or for more information.
