Local contractor Zander Lee has completed an application for a new building with four apartments and a four-bay garage on Academy Hill and is waiting for approval from the Newcastle Planning Board.
The board met Thursday, May 21 to review Lee’s application and determine the final steps to push his project into the next phase. They deemed his application complete but did not approve it because of a few missing components.
Among the items is a narrative in which Lee must explain the environmental impacts of the building.
The proposed location of the building is on Academy Hill Road, next to Maine Industrial P & R Corp. and along the Maine Eastern Railroad.
Lee plans to buy the land where a mobile home and a garage currently stand and remove both structures in preparation for his project.
The two-story building will be approximately 80 feet wide and 72 feet long. Its western side will contain four three-bedroom apartments and its eastern side will be Lee’s four-bay storage area.
Lee will have to notify all property owners within 2,000 feet of the proposed building of the construction and attend a public hearing where neighbors can express any concerns they might have.
