Long time local resident Jason Simonds has been working one end of a sound system as the singer in his band, Wicked Blues Band. While that project continues on in the studio, last year, Simonds began working toward providing sound reinforcement to other bands and events by starting up Bunker Hill Sound.
Simonds just recently worked two weekends in a row, mixing and amplifying sound first for the Maine Blues Society at their annual competition in Lewiston, where eight different acts took the stage on a Sunday to perform, and then followed it up the next weekend at the popular Damariscotta Mills Fish Ladder Restoration Festival, providing sound for eight different acts over the course of the two day event.
Simonds said he enjoys the challenge of getting the right sound out to the audience at the right levels, and working with fellow musicians to put on the show. The musicians he has worked with appreciated his ear and his on stage experience. Event organizers have been impressed with great sound and smooth running shows.
In the “sound” business, sound reinforcement means just that, capturing the sound and reinforcing it through amplification. Bunker Hill Sound also has a LED lighting system to help create the right mood for any event.
The next event on Bunker Hill Sound’s public schedule is a three-night stint during the North Atlantic Blues Festival, providing sound for the house band at the Time Out Pub. Simonds has just recently agreed to work with Kate Shrock and Glen DaCosta in a series of concerts over the summer and fall, including an appearance in Damariscotta in September.
To top this summer off, Bunker Hill Sound will also be providing sound for two time Blues Piano Of The Year winner, Victor Wainwright, when he appears in Kingfield in August with his band, the WildRoots.
