The federal government has reimbursed Maine Yankee Atomic Power Company for $81.7 million in costs related to the spent nuclear fuel stored at the site of the former nuclear power plant in Wiscasset, according to a press release from the company.
The reimbursement represents damages for the failure of the government to remove the fuel during the period of 1998 and 2002, according to the release. Connecticut Yankee and Yankee Atomic have also received reimbursements as a part of the lawsuit.
