A man and his dog were rescued by a passing lobsterman after their boat caught fire around noon on Oct. 11. No injuries were reported from the incident, Coast Guard officials said.
Doug Smith – Coast Guard spokesman BM2 Joe Lanigan did not know Smith’s age or where he is from – was rescued about two miles from Boothbay Harbor, just south of Squirrel Island, Lanigan said.
Smith’s 36-foot powerboat was completely engulfed in flames and Smith had been picked up by the lobsterman, whose name is not known, when Coast Guard crews arrived, Lanigan said. The cause of the fire is unknown.
After the Coast Guard arrived, Smith and his dog were brought to Bristol on the lobster boat Why Bother.
