Officials believe a 74-year-old man died before his car skidded to the opposite side of Rt. 1 in Waldoboro Monday night.
They believe Jacob Timberf III of Meadowbrook, Penn., lost his life before crashing his vehicle on the opposite side of the road. His silver sedan crossed all lanes in front of Moose Crossing Garden Center on Rt. 1 in Waldoboro and landed in the ditch off the southbound side of the road at around 7 p.m.
Waldoboro Fire, EMS and Police responded to the scene shortly after the call at 7:18 p.m. on Sept. 21.
No other cars or other passengers were involved in the crash, according to Waldoboro Fire Chief Paul Smeltzer. The fire chief said they did not need to extract Timberf from his vehicle, nor was Lifeflight called in.
“There were no injuries that I know of,” Waldoboro Police officer Tom Bartunek said, adding that EMS personnel believe Timberf died before crashing his vehicle. First responders transported the driver to Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta shortly after their arrival to the scene.
The accident is currently under investigation, Bartunek said.
