A 58-year-old man survived a 60-foot fall from an oak tree in South Bristol the afternoon of Thursday, July 21.
South Bristol Fire Chief Mark Carrothers said the man, whose name was not available, fell while trimming a tree on Johns Bay Road. The man reportedly fell feet-first into a pile of pine needles, which cushioned his fall.
“He barely missed falling onto the owner’s walkway, which was made out of flat stones,” Carrothers said. “It was very close.”
The Lincoln County Communications Center paged the South Bristol First Responders at 1:38 p.m. Carrothers said the man was conscious and alert when responders arrived.
Carrothers said the man indicated he had rib pain on both sides of his body, however, he did not report any leg pain.
The Central Lincoln County Ambulance Service transported the man to LincolnHealth’s Miles Campus in Damariscotta, Carrothers said.
Carrothers said South Bristol First Responders had two calls at the same time Thursday, and he was grateful for CLC Ambulance.
“We work well together and we were glad they were there to help us out,” Carrothers said.
